The One That DIDN’T Get Away

Last Friday was the first official day of Summer Vacation for my kids.  They spent the afternoon with their grandmother.  She has a pond and they like to go fishing.  Usually there isn’t a whole lot of luck.  Julia caught her first fish–and second fish–that afternoon.  The first fish was a Sun fish that wasn’t worth keeping.   The second one was so big she needed her brother to help her.  They ended up reeling it in, then scooping it up with the net so that it wouldn’t break the pole!

This Big Mouth Bass measured 17 1/2 inches and weighed about 4 pounds!

Her brother was green with envy but was happy to be included as part of the story.  He claims that this is the BIG BASS that he has been trying to catch for months.

  1. That’s a lunker! Care to share where you were fishing? You could draw a little map, and include what time of day, the barometric pressure, water temp, color of bait, type of bait and speed of presentation.

    Thanks.

  2. Her secret is that she was simply lucky! I think she violated every cardinal rule of fishing… She was fishing in the mid-afternoon, at the edge of a well-used pond, and–you won’t like this, but she actually used rubber worms!
