As I mentioned earlier, we will post daily readings for you to consider from now until Easter Sunday. Each week will focus on one of the seven “Last Words” that Jesus spoke while he was on the cross. My prayer is that in one way or another, you would engage scripture each day throughout this season of Lent. Please feel free to ask questions or leave comments.
Sunday, March 9
“Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” –Luke 23:34
Jesus’ prayer calls us to confess the ways we fall short of living the life God calls us to live, and ask for forgiveness and restoration. This season of preparation for Easter begins with a posture of humility that reckons with our own brokenness. However, we don’t remain in a spirit of perpetual confession. Instead, we lead into the promise of Scripture that God will forgive our sins. Even as he hung on the cross, we find Christ ready to extend grace and mercy to us!
