Teach Us To Pray: The Lord’s Prayer

Most of us can recite the Lord’s Prayer in our sleep. It was a prayer given by Jesus Himself to His disciples (and us), but the only time we seem to utilize it is during corporate worship. Do you think that is what Jesus intended or might there be other ways to use it? Could learning other ways to use it possibly deepen our understanding of who God is and strengthen our personal connection with Him? It is worth taking a closer look.

Questions for discussion:

  • What do you think was the main point of Matt’s message?
  • Do you believe Jesus gave us the Lord’s Prayer strictly to be a pattern for our prayers?
  • If that is its only purpose (to be a pattern), why do you think Jesus chose very specific and personal verbiage?
  • What are some ways, outside of corporate worship, that you can use the Lord’s Prayer to deepen your current prayer life?

Do something about it:

This week look for creative ways in which you can interject the Lord’s Prayer into your everyday life. Also, familiarize yourself with the pattern and the very personal nature Jesus used and incorporate them to enhance your personal prayers.

Digging deeper:

Matthew 6:9-15; Luke 11:2-4; Matthew 24:13-52; James 1:13-15; Matt. 18:21-35
